Maura McLane, MS, MFT

Longtime Bay Area psychotherapist Maura McLane, MS, MFT, passed away on July 15, 2019, following a brief illness. Born in Auburn, NY, in 1945, she combined her extensive clinical and research expertise to help countless patients, particularly older adults, dealing with depression, anxiety, anger management, substance abuse, and phase of life transitions.

Prior to joining UCSF, McLane practiced at the San Francisco State University Health Center, Letterman Army Medical Center, and Catholic Charities of San Francisco. During her time on the medical staff of Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital, she was very active in the Adult Psychiatry Clinic and was integral to the development of the department's mindful-based cognitive therapy program, serving as the lead therapist in an NIH-sponsored clinical trial and mentoring numerous junior colleagues. She also worked as part of the UCSF Problem Solving Therapy (PST) Training Institute to deliver evidence-based psychotherapy treatment to older adults and train clinicians to use PST in community-based programs. McLane retired from UCSF in 2013 as an associate clinical professor.

She was the beloved partner and wife to Cassandra Chu for 43 years, and was preceded in death by father Andrew, mother Florence and brother Kevin. She is survived by her brothers Neal, Michael, Terry, and Brian, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews. Contributions in her memory can be made to the American Lung Association and the Threshold Choir of Marin
