VA Advanced Fellowship in Mental Illness Research and Treatment (Neuroscience)

The Veterans Administration sponsors a two-year VA Advanced Fellowship in Mental Illness Research and Treatment (Neuroscience), which is potentially renewable for a third year. The fellowship is designed to provide training in basic science and translational clinical research. The program includes a course of study as well as a research project that will promote training in biological psychiatric research.

To be considered for the program, applicants must be psychiatrists who are board-eligible. Applicants must identify a VA-based faculty member as mentor or co-mentor.

How to apply

Contact Daniel Mathalon, MD, PhD, for application information. Applications are considered on an ongoing basis, but must be submitted three months prior to the anticipated start date. Applicants must also undergo credentialing at the VA prior to submitting the fellowship application. A VA-based faculty mentor or co-mentor must be identified.

Fellows spend approximately 25% of their time in clinical work at SFVAMC.
