Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training

Training is essential to the mission of the Children’s Center. Health practitioners with specific expertise in childhood mental disorders are a distressingly scarce resource, and we are proud to be one of the few programs in Northern California that trains child and adolescent psychiatrists and child psychologists. In addition, we work with many other trainees at UCSF, including general psychiatry residents, pediatric residents, and students in medicine, nursing, dentistry, and pharmacy, to ensure that they have the knowledge base they need to recognize and respond appropriately to mental disorders in younger patients.

The Children's Center also offers an array of formal and informal educational opportunities for community practitioners and for the general public, to disseminate information about improvements in care of children and adolescents with severe psychiatric disorders.
