Areán to speak at IOM workshop on cognitive dysfunction in depression

Patricia Areán, PhD, has been invited by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous Systems Disorders to speak at its upcoming meeting, “Enabling Discovery, Development, and Translation of Treatments for Cognitive Dysfunction in Depression: A Workshop,” on February 24 at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC. Arean will talk specifically about lifespan issues during the workshop’s “Design and Assessment Challenges” session.

The IOM's Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders focuses on building partnerships to further understand the brain and nervous system, disorders in their structure and function, as well as effective clinical prevention and treatment strategies. The workshop, co-chaired by National Institute of Mental Health director Tom Insel, MD, and former director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Division of Psychiatry Products Tom Laughren, MD, will bring together key stakeholders to explore ways of enabling the discovery, development, and translation of treatments addressing cognitive dysfunction in depression, and explore potential regulatory challenges, such as recognition of cognitive dysfunction in depression as a public health need.
