Bland, Chu to join department faculty in April

The UCSF Department of Psychiatry will welcome two new faculty members to its ranks this month.

Ann Chu, PhD, begins her appointment today, April 1, as an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry based at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. She will also serve as the Assistant Director of Dissemination for Child-Parent Psychotherapy for the UCSF Child Trauma Research Program.

Chu received her PhD in clinical child psychiatry at the University of Denver, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with UCSF's Clinical Psychology Training Program, where she received the 2010 R.E. Harris Award. A specialist in developmental cognitive neuroscience with two dozen research publications to her credit, she was previously at faculty member at the University of Denver and most recently a program director at Berkeley-based A Better Way, Inc.

Anton Bland, MD, will begin his academic appointment on Monday, April 17 as a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor and Medical Director for Psychiatric Emergency Services at Zuckerberg San Francisco General. He received his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in addiction psychiatry, in addition to his psychiatric residency at the University of Maryland's Sheppard Pratt Hospital.

Bland holds expertise in integrated care treatment programs, addiction psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. He was recognized with the American Society of Hematology's 2005 Minority Medical Student Research Award and the American Psychiatric Association's SAMHSA Fellowship Award (2011) and SAMHSA Substance Abuse Fellowship Award (2012). In addition to clinical appointments with the Alameda Health System and Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, Bland has served as a lecturer at the California Pacific Medical Center and a volunteer clinical faculty member at UCSF.
