Four department trainees have been selected to present their scholarship and research at Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds events later this year as part of a series designed to highlight the work of senior trainees (e.g., residents, child psychiatry fellows, psychology trainees, postdoctoral fellows) at or near the end of their training and help launch their academic careers. Special Grand Rounds sessions in April and May 2017 will each feature formal presentations from two of the selected trainees, followed by a period for questions and discussion with audience members.
Congratulations to the trainees below, who will present their research abstracts on the following dates:
- Kaitlin Casaletto, PhD (postdoctoral fellow in the Clinical Psychology Training Program, mentored by Joel Kramer, PsyD) – "Synaptic Function is Uniquely Associated With Delayed Recall Performance in Aging Adults" (May 16)
- Michael Jacob, MD, PhD (fourth-year resident physician in the Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program, mentored by Daniel Mathalon, PhD, MD, and Judith Ford, PhD) – “Linking Time and Space to Identify Neural Mechanisms of Semantic Processing Impairments in Schizophrenia: An ERP-fMRI 'Fusion' Study” (April 4)
- Jin Kim, PhD (postdoctoral fellow in the Drug Abuse Treatment and Services Research Training Program, mentored by Janice Tsoh, PhD) – "Examining the Role of Food Insecurity in Cigarette Use and Smoking Cessation" (April 4)
- Erika Yeh, PhD (postdoctoral research fellow, mentored by Lauren Weiss, PhD) – “Patient-Derived iPSCs Show Neuron Type-Specific Phenotypes Relevant to Neurodevelopmental and Psychiatric Disease” (May 16)
Now in its fourth year, the UCSF Psychiatry Grand Rounds Trainee Research Award annually selects trainees conducting notable and advanced research through a competitive application process. In addition to presenting their scholarship and research at Grand Rounds events, the recipients will receive additional mentorship and guidance from faculty, the opportunity to discuss their work with department leadership, and special recognition at graduation.
