Early Career Psychology Research Award

Call for 2025 awards cycle nominations

The annual UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Early Career Psychology Research Award was established in 2024 to recognize excellence, creativity, and innovation in research conducted by a psychologist-scientist in our department, as evidenced by novel and high-impact research (for basic or clinical/translational research applications). The recipient will be given a monetary award of $1,000, and an invitation to give an oral presentation on their research to the department.

Eligibility

All DPBS Assistant Professor faculty who are psychologists across all series (excluding volunteer status). Note that departmental affiliation must be current at the time the award is given. Awardees must be in compensation plan to receive additional pay, otherwise award will be provided to a faculty discretionary account to support academic activities.

Nominations

Any department faculty or postdoctoral research fellow may nominate (including self-nominations) for this award by submitting the following materials to the Psychology Advisory Committee Research Subcommittee for consideration.

  1. A nominating letter (or bulleted list) of no more than one page describing the candidate’s record of high-impact clinical contributions to the field of psychology and behavioral sciences. Note that up to three other faculty may be included as co-signatories in the nominating letter (one nominating and two supporting), but one is sufficient to support a nomination.
  2. The candidate’s CV.
  3. A publication of a first- or senior-authored study (preprints included) to highlight the nominee's achievement of innovative, high-impact research.

     

Selection

Application materials will be reviewed by DPBS’s Psychology Advisory Committee Research Subcommittee. Applications will be evaluated for research excellence based on these criteria:

  • Significance of methodological innovations, or theoretical or empirical contributions
  • Potential for broad impact on the field
