Derek D. Satre, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco; and is an adjunct investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research. Dr. Satre's research is focused on addiction and mental health services, including behavioral intervention development and testing, studies of screening and treatment in primary care settings, and the use of mobile apps and other digital health technology to address alcohol and drug use in patient populations with co-occurring mental or physical health problems. He has conducted a number of clinical trials and observational studies of patients with depression, anxiety, HIV, liver disease, alcohol and cannabis problems, smoking, and other conditions. He has a strong research interest in improving mental health services across the lifespan, particularly with older adults, as well as the impact of health care reform and other policy changes on health services. Dr. Satre is active in research mentoring for junior faculty and trainees, with a K24 award from NIAAA in support of this work. He also serves as Deputy Vice Chair for Research, supporting faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences who are based at the UCSF Nancy Friend Pritzker Psychiatry Buliding, and he is the Program Director and Principal Investigator of the UCSF NIDA T32 Postdoctoral Traineeship in Substance Use Disorders Treatment and Services Research.
