The Molofsky Lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking candidates for an Assistant or Associate Specialist position. The Specialist series is used for academic appointees who are engaged in specialized research, professional activity, and University and/or public service. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the research enterprise of the University and to achieve recognition in the professional and scientific community.
The candidate will be responsible for studying the links between the immune system and neurodegeneration. They will perform independent research to this end. Specialists appointed at the assistant rank require a master’s degree or a baccalaureate degree with three or more years of research experience. Specialists appointed at the associate rank require a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
The Berendzen Lab at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking to a recruit an outstanding candidate to fill a computational biologist position at the Junior Level. Research in the Berendzen lab seeks to understand how aging and age-related disease impact social behavior. We use a combination of genetic, molecular, and physiologic approaches in rodent and human or animal-derived cell models, with a goal of developing better therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative and other age-related diseases. We work collaboratively with basic scientists as well as our clinical and translational colleagues in the Departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Neurology.
The role of the Specialist is to both assist with ongoing experiments and, depending on the candidate’s skill level, conduct independent research under the guidance of Dr. Berendzen and other members of the Berendzen Lab. The Specialist will learn and utilize a variety of research techniques and will have the opportunity to be a co-author on publications.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is now recruiting a Junior or Assistant Specialist. The job duties include the following:
- Animal husbandry
- Rodent stereotaxic surgery (virus injection, hardware implantation
- Behavior assays (execution and scoring)
- Calcium imaging drug behavior
- Optogenetic manipulation during behavior
- Brain Histology
- Confocal imaging
