Acharya to take part in university panel on humanitarian crises

Fourth-year psychiatry resident Bibhav Acharya, MD, will participate in a university-wide discussion this week about challenges and lessons learned from responding to humanitarian crises. The event, “Response to Humanitarian Crises: Lessons from Nepal and Haiti, and Future Directions,” is sponsored by UCSF Global Health and UCSF Student Health Professionals for Social Responsibility, and will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at noon in N-225 on the Parnassus campus.

As the leader of multiple non-profit healthcare organizations in Nepal, Acharya has been involved in fundraising and coordinating relief work following the recent Gorkha Earthquake. He will provide the latest updates on the crisis, share early challenges and lessons in the roles of NGOs, INGOs and the public and private sectors, and describe efforts in the often-ignored field of mental health and psychosocial support.
